Goodness! In the course of one day, Houston fans have experienced as much drama as some cities go through in a year. This morning, the sun shone bright and strong: The Astros had just won their first World Series in thrilling fashion; Deshaun Watson, only a few days removed from his bedazzling performance against the staunch Seattle Seahawks, was on pace to shatter a number of rookie QB records in the NFL and had finally stabilized the QB position for the young franchise; and Carlos Correa's proposal on live television served as the rich cherry topping off a wonderful week. Then, this evening, news broke of Deshaun Watson's season-ending ACL injury, instantly dashing all hope of a deep playoff run for the Texans.
The last few weeks in Houston have been tough, but those stubborn Texans refuse to go quietly, practically embodying the the 'next man up' mantra.JJ Watt's fundraising efforts buoyed Houston through Harvey. Then, Watson's humbleleadership off the field and brilliant play on it inspired hope for the future, despite Watt's second season-ending injury. Now, the Astros' inaugural World Series title provides the people of Houston a little something to hang their hat on, as the sun sets on the Texans' season. Over the next few months, Watt, Watson, and the people of Houston will work together to recover from their injuries stronger than before, motivated by the promise of tomorrow to overcome the pain of today. In the meantime, they will celebrate the success of the Astros and relish this historic moment in Houston's history.
